Antelope Canyon

Second post in one day!  This afternoon we took a tour of Antelope Canyon, an oft-visited and photographed slot canyon on Navajo land outside of Page, AZ.  It's a 20 minute drive down roads and deep sand in the back of a 4WL pickup with benches mounted in the back.  The tour itself is under an hour, with loads of people in the narrow canyon, which tops out around 120' deep.  Luckily for us, most photos are aimed upwards, and we snagged some empty space for some great shots.  Today we are staying in another Motel, as the $55 upgrade seemed worthy to grant us TV, internet, beds, showers, and AC.  The record high of 95 also encouraged an additional motel stay.  Apparently we've reached the age where an additional 50 bucks is worth our comfort.

Some of my favorite photos from the canyon are below, so enjoy them!  With limited time in the canyon, I used a small 6" tripod I could hold against the walls for quick shots in heavy traffic.  If you go, I would highly recommend one, as exposure times of 1/2 - 8 seconds is common.  We're enjoying our AC tonight and headed back to the Paria Ranger Contact Station in the morning for our second attempt at permits for The Wave.  Afterward we'll take a day trip to the north rim of the Grand Canyon, hoping and assuming we can get into The Wave Thursday.

Enjoy!
